WILLIAM BROWNING IN
WOODLAWN CEMETERY

With all the reverence and beauty of a Masonic funeral, the body of the late William Browning, Springwater, was laid at rest yesterday afternoon in Woodlawn cemetery. The funeral and services were attended by nearly every member of the Masonic order, Saskatchewan Lodge, No. 16.

Mr. Browning was a member of long standing of Granite Lodge, No. 466, Fort Frances, Ontario, and was held in great esteem by all who knew him.

The funeral was held from Edwards' undertaking parlors at 2.30 p.m., and from there went up 23rd street to Christ church, where the service, was held by Rev. E. Hodson.

Mr. Browning was born in Montreal, Quebec, in the year 1881. For many years he served with the Grand Trunk Railway, the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Canadian Northern Railway as a mechanic at Montreal, Carleton Place, Atikokan, Ontario, at Winnipeg, Manitoba, and finally at Saskatoon, Sask., with the Canadian Pacific Railway, until the year 1912. He then took up farming at Springwater, Sask., as one of the pioneer farmers of that district, where he has since remained. At Atikokan, Ontario, Mr. Browning married Miss Effie O'Donnell in 1906. She predeceased him in 1914. In 1916 he married Miss McIntosh at Biggar, who now survives him.

Leaves Four Children

He leaves to mourn his loss four children, Willie, Effie, Jean and John; his mother, who resides at Montreal; a brother, Fred Browning, of Montreal, a conductor on the Grand Trunk Railway, who attended the funeral; a brother, Jim Browning, of Montreal, a leading musician in the St. Denis theatre, Montreal, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Atkinson, of Montreal. The deceased was a most progressive and successful farmer, and won the respect and esteem of all who became acquainted with him.

South African Veteran

He was a veteran of the South African War; one-time president of Montreal Field Battery's sports; for many years a star player in the St. Gabriel's lacrosse club, Point St. Charles, Quebec; a member of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association for many years; a one-time member of the Grand Trunk boating club, of Montreal; a prominent member of the Grain Growers' Association of Saskatchewan, and a member of the Masonic order.

A.A. ROLLING

ATIKOKAN, Ont., Feb. 8.–The funeral service for A.A. Rolling, 65, who died at his residence here, Jan. 31, was held Feb. 3, in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic church. Born in Preston, Ont., Mr. Rolling moved to Atikokan in 1918 and was coal dock foreman for the C.N.R. unitl his retirement in December, 1944. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Weiler, of Formosa, Ont.; one son, Arthur, at home; also three grand-children.

Mrs. MARY ELIZABETH RENNICK

RENNICK–On Sunday December 27th, 1959, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rennick, late of 1036 Athol street, Regina, passed away at Atikokan, Ontario at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by her husband, the late Mr. Arthur Rennick on January 10th, 1951 and also by a granddaughter in 1949, the late Mrs. Rennick is survived by her three sons: Dr. W. Coulter Rennick, 2945 Rae street, Wallace Stewart of Lumsden and Edward Gordon of Rouleau, Sask; (Beth) Mrs. C.A. Davey, Tregarva, Sask; (Laura) Mrs. Jim Gienow, Atikokan, Ontario; also fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Charles Hodgins, Edmonton, Alberta and one brother Mr. Herb Coulter, Stranraer, Sask. The funeral service will be conducted from St. Andrew's United Church on Thursday December 31st at 1:30 p.m., with the Reverend Gordon Tooms officiating. The interment will follow in the family plot at Regina Cemetery. Arrangements by the Bremner Funeral Chapel.

Ex-Resident Dies in East

HERBERT S. HEGLER

Former Edmonton real estate man Herbert S. Hegler, who entered the business in the boom that preceded the First World War, and stayed to participate in the expansion that followed the Second, died in Port Arthur recently at 87. Funeral services for Mr. Hegler were held in Atikokan, Ont., April 5.

Born in the United States, his first business venture in western Canada was a flour mill at Moosomin, Sask. He came to Edmonton in 1910 and until his retirement about five years ago operated Hegler Agencies in the Agency Building.

Mr. Hegler was well-known in curling circles, having joined the Granite Curling Club at its founding. He was a member of McDougall Church Men's Club and of Metropolitan United Church on the south side.

Mr. Hegler lived at 11040 Whyte Ave. until the death of his daughter Helene in 1958. He then moved to Atikokan, Ont., to live with a son, Wyatt Hegler. A daughter, Margaret, of Hamilton, survives. Mrs. Hegler died in 1938.

Parents Mourn Young Son

JOHN W. HERRETT

YOUBOU–John Warren Herrett was drowned in Cowichan Lake at Youbou on February 18. He was born at Atikokan, Ontario, on May 28, 1960, and for the past year and a half lived at Youbou and attended school.

Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Herrett, Youbou, he is survived by two brothers, James and Stephen, at home and four sisters, Mrs. B. (Ann) Northup, Youbou; Krista, Nancy and Shelley at home.

Also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Herrett, Victoria, and Mrs. C. Taylor, Toronto.

Funeral service will be held at the Hirst Funeral Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m., Rev. Ross Connal officiating, followed by burial in the children's section, Mountain View Cemetery, Somenos.

MRS. EDNA MOFFATT

MOFFATT–The death of Edna Moffatt occurred on Saturday, March 27 at New Westminster, B.C. Born in Renfrew, Ontario in 1890 she later moved to Manitoba marrying Samuel Moffatt of La Riviere in 1910, who predeceased her in 1946. Mrs. Moffatt lived in Turtleford, Sask., Atikokan, Ontario, Saskatoon, Sask, moving to New Westminster in the late 1960's. Mrs Moffatt was a member of the United Church, Chapter member of Atikokan Eastern Star, The United Church Women, Ladies Auxilliary of the Legion, Y.W.C.A. and Century House Club. Left to mourn her loss are four sons: Archie of Duncan, B.C., William and Neil of La Riviere and Robert of Atikokan, Ontario; three daughters, Ida East of Ancaster, Ontario, Mildred Johnson of Darlingford, Manitoba, Geraldine Pladsen of Richmond, B.C., and one sister, Mrs. Ann Ellis of New Westminster B.C. Memorial Services were held at La Riviere United Church on Thursday, April 1.
