Atikokan Progress, March 6 1952 : Hockey Team Loses

The Atikokan Midget Monarchs suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of the Fort Frances J.A. Mathieu Midgets, Saturday, March 1, when the Fort boys rapped in 14 goals without a reply from the locals. Atikokan held the home club at 2-0 until well into the second period but the superior passing and conditioning of the Fort players disorganized Monarchs and the Forts went on their scoring spree that did not end until the final whistle. Although the Monarchs threatened to ruin the Fort shutout they could not click.

The line of Peter Hancock, Don Mathison and Eldred Kennedy was the best line on the ice and they are all of bantam age. Hancock's and Kennedy's aggressive body checking against players much bigger than they and Matheson's shifty stick handling made their line the least scored one of the Monarchs.

After the game both teams were invited to the Indian Residential school for a lunch.
